The Inside-Out Guide to University Life: How to Stay Present, Stress Less and Thrive

What if everything you thought was a “university problem” was really just a “thinking problem”?

Starting university is one of the most exciting — and overwhelming — experiences of your life. New people, new pressures, new independence, new expectations… and a mind that suddenly feels louder than ever.

But what if the chaos isn’t coming from university at all?

What if it’s coming from inside your mind — and what if that mind is working perfectly?

Blending psychology, storytelling, humour, and refreshingly simple wisdom, this book offers a radically different way of experiencing university life. Forget the usual advice about hustling harder, getting disciplined, building routines, and holding yourself accountable. This book goes deeper — to the source of experience itself.

Inside, you’ll discover:

Why procrastination has nothing to do with laziness — and everything to do with thought
How to make sense of anxiety, low mood, stress, and overwhelm through a completely new lens
Why your mind speeds up, how to recognise the signals, and how to let it settle naturally
How insight — not effort — leads to lasting change
What “slowing down” really means, and why clarity always comes when you stop searching for it
Why independent living feels impossible at first (and why it always gets easier)
How to navigate friendships, societies, identity, and pressure without losing yourself
Why expectations sabotage you — and how to live with freedom instead of fear
How to approach your degree with calm, curiosity, and confidence
A radically simple understanding of the mind that will change more than just your time at uni
This isn’t a study guide. It’s a guide to being human.

Written in a relatable, conversational, often laugh-out-loud voice, this book speaks directly to students who feel overwhelmed, lost, stressed, or “not good enough”. Through metaphors, stories, and real experiences, you’ll uncover:

The power of the present moment
The illusion of “future catastrophes”
Why you don’t need to control your thoughts for them to lose power
How to enjoy university more by thinking less
The truth behind stress, burnout, confidence, and clarity
If you’ve ever felt:

✔ “I’m not coping as well as everyone else”

✔ “My mind won’t slow down”

✔ “I’m procrastinating and I don’t know why”

✔ “I’m overwhelmed and don’t know where to start”

✔ “Everyone else seems to be doing better than me”

…then this book will feel like a breath of fresh air.

A new approach. A new understanding. A new university experience.

The real magic of this book isn’t in giving you tips; it’s in helping you see something true about yourself. Something that makes everything easier — studying, friendships, confidence, mental wellbeing, and life far beyond graduation.

Once you see it… you can’t unsee it.

I am very interested in psychology, learning about the mind and all that it holds, the understanding of the conscious and the unconscious and how we think and act. I hope at some point to do a doctorate in either counselling or clinical psychology to gain chartership as I find all forms of psychotherapy and counselling interesting.
I have my own business which has just been set up called mystic therapies which was set up to help people whether it was through psychological help or aches and pains.

I grew up loving sport, I have played rugby all through my life, through various clubs and teams, I found it a great way when I was younger to channel my emotions and use the game as a way of letting out some steam at the end of the week.

I did a degree in sports and exercise psychology at the University of Northampton which I found great, played for many teams, rugby, boxing and athletics were my favourite and these were the best 4 years of my life to that point.

I have also very recently completed a PGCERT is social and psychological inquiry and an msc in psychology with all thats left to do is a doctorate in clinical or counselling psychology before I am a chartered member of the bps.

I am a member of the BPS under graduate basis which has its benefits, continuous professional development between an important one, and whilst I’ve been working as a mentor, I have been a member of umhan which has great benefits towards the role from group supervision, reflection and cpd development.
