The Unscattered Mind – Understand Procrastination Beyond Time, Motivation and Overwhelm

Stop Fighting Your Mind. Start Understanding It.

Do you feel like you’re constantly “behind,” no matter how many productivity hacks you try?

For most students and professionals, procrastination isn’t a time-management problem—it’s a noise problem. We’ve been told that the solution to overwhelm is more discipline, better planners, and “grinding” through the fear. But what if the harder you try to fix your mind, the more scattered it becomes?

In The Unscattered Mind, Matt Tapper reveals a radical, compassionate, and life-changing truth: Clarity is your natural state. You don’t need to “find” focus; you just need to understand what is currently obscuring it.

Drawing on years of experience coaching thousands of students, Tapper moves beyond superficial “hacks” to explore the Inside-Out nature of our experience. This book isn’t about doing more; it’s about understanding why we feel like we can’t—and how to return to a state of flow without the force.

In these pages, you will discover:

• The Myth of the “Broken” Brain: Why you aren’t lazy, and why your procrastination is actually a natural (but misunderstood) protective mechanism.

• The Backpack of Bricks: How to recognize the heavy mental weight we carry into our tasks and how to set it down.

• The Spotlight Mental Map: A simple visual tool to shift from the “narrow beam” of panic to the “wide beam” of perspective.

• The Power of Settling: Why the “Snow Globe” of your mind clears itself when you stop shaking it.

• Emergency Reflections: Practical, one-page prompts to read when you’re staring at a blank screen or a looming deadline.

Whether you are a student paralyzed by a dissertation, a professional overwhelmed by a project, or anyone tired of the “try harder” narrative, The Unscattered Mind offers a gentle path back to productivity.

Stop fighting the mental noise. Discover the quiet clarity that has been there all along.

I am very interested in psychology, learning about the mind and all that it holds, the understanding of the conscious and the unconscious and how we think and act. I hope at some point to do a doctorate in either counselling or clinical psychology to gain chartership as I find all forms of psychotherapy and counselling interesting.
I have my own business which has just been set up called mystic therapies which was set up to help people whether it was through psychological help or aches and pains.

I grew up loving sport, I have played rugby all through my life, through various clubs and teams, I found it a great way when I was younger to channel my emotions and use the game as a way of letting out some steam at the end of the week.

I did a degree in sports and exercise psychology at the University of Northampton which I found great, played for many teams, rugby, boxing and athletics were my favourite and these were the best 4 years of my life to that point.

I have also very recently completed a PGCERT is social and psychological inquiry and an msc in psychology with all thats left to do is a doctorate in clinical or counselling psychology before I am a chartered member of the bps.

I am a member of the BPS under graduate basis which has its benefits, continuous professional development between an important one, and whilst I’ve been working as a mentor, I have been a member of umhan which has great benefits towards the role from group supervision, reflection and cpd development.
